Queen’s University, Students’ Union Refurbishment

Queen’s University Students’ Union was housed within a drab 1970s complex. The brief was to “reface” the building’s primary elevations, re–configure the existing entrances, restructure a ground floor retail mall area, and refurbish selected areas within the upper floors of the building. Elevational proposals recommended an over–clad solution, working with the building’s primary horizontal and secondary vertical emphasis, rejuvenating its appearance and visual impact. In refurbishing a busy existing building, particular care was taken to ensure that the health and safety of it’s occupants was not compromised during construction.
