TODD Architects Open London Office
Todd Architects has marked the opening of a London office by securing two significant commissions in the city. The practice, which recently oversaw the successful delivery of the £100m Titanic Belfast visitor attraction, has been appointed by leading Irish developer, Ballymore, to work on two major residential developments in the city.
The new projects are the completion of a penthouse apartment complex at Baltimore Wharf and an executive architect role on a brownfield redevelopment project in north London known as Leamouth North
Todd’s London base is located in Hammersmith and will be headed up by principal John Chapman, who brings over 25–years’ experience from across the UK and Europe. His previous projects include the Printworks, Manchester, Stockley Park and Newcastle City Library.
Paul Crowe, MD of Todd Architects, said:
“We have a strong record of delivering projects for both public and private sector bodies in London, including University College London, Kingston University, a number of London Boroughs, Westfield, Telereal Trillium and Mapeley. With the property market in London and the south–east of England continuing to improve we’re keen to re–establish a physical presence in city and seek out new opportunities.
“Heading up the office will be John Chapman – a great addition to our team. We are confident that John’s local knowledge and experience, coupled with our existing portfolio of completing buildings and current projects, will help Todds consolidate its presence in London and the South East.”
John Chapman held senior positions in Building Design Partnership, Fitch, RTKL and most recently was head of Kajima’s design unit. John added:
“Todd’s expertise and reputation in a wide range of sectors made them a very attractive company to work for and I hope this coupled with my own experience in areas such as urban design and masterplanning will bring a new dynamic to the team. Leading the London office is quite a challenge, but one which I am relishing.
“Todd’s have a strong pedigree in being able to adapt equally to projects of a small and intricate scale to major complex redevelopments, and this will be effective in growing our presence in London. Titanic Belfast is a building which has made a major impression throughout the UK and Todd’s role as architect will hopefully also open plenty of doors”.
